Profile
Associate Professor Birman is an ENT Surgeon with subspecialisation in paediatric ENT, and paediatric and adult otology and hearing loss. She completed a Fellowship in 1997 in both paediatric ENT and cochlear implantation. Associate Professor Birman is the Medical Director of the Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre, past Chair of the NSW branch of ASOHNS and a Board Member of RIDBC. She works at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, The Children's Hospital at Westmead, Hornsby Hospital, Sydney Adventist Hospital and Macquarie University Hospital.
Research
Associate Professor Birman has specific interest and expertise in Cochlear implants. She is also interested in Paediatric ENT, including obstructive sleep apnoea, glue ear and auditory problems. She has a great deal of experience in adult ENT including sinusitis, hearing and ear problems and voice problems. Her current research involves outcomes of cochlear implants, and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD).
